Delano, Minnesota, boasts a rich tapestry of arts and cultural events that reflect the community’s creative spirit. From visual arts to music festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the year.
Delano Sculpture & Blues Fest
Each year, the Delano Area Council for Arts and Culture hosts the Sculpture & Blues Fest, a celebration that combines visual arts with live blues music. Attendees can tour new and existing sculptures, explore an art market featuring local vendors, and enjoy performances by artists like the Joyann Parker Band and Trent Romens Band. This event is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Central MN Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
Community Mural Paint Project
In honor of Delano’s 150th anniversary, the Delano Public Library invites community members to contribute to a large-scale mosaic mural led by local artist LeAnna Wurzer. Participants of all ages and skill levels can paint a 3″x3″ canvas featuring a design curated by LeAnna. These individual pieces will come together as a one-of-a-kind mural, to be unveiled at the Annual Community Art Show in October 2026 and permanently displayed in the Delano Public Library. This program is made possible with Arts & Cultural Heritage Funds from Minnesota’s Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment.
Historic 4th of July Celebration
Delano hosts Minnesota’s oldest and largest Fourth of July celebration, founded in 1857. The event features live music, American Legion baseball games, and a historic parade, all honoring the nation’s independence and Delano’s community spirit.
Delano Community Band
Established in November 2017, the Delano Community Band is an inter-generational, all-volunteer concert band that rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Delano High School band room. Their repertoire spans various genres, offering growth and performance opportunities for area musicians.
Public Art Initiatives
The Delano Area Council for Arts and Culture has initiated projects like the ‘Spark the Power of Art’ to promote local artists and make art accessible to the community. This project involves transforming utility boxes around town into canvases showcasing the works of local artists, enhancing the downtown area’s aesthetic appeal.
Delano’s commitment to arts and culture is evident in these events and initiatives, fostering a vibrant community that celebrates creativity and heritage year-round.
